Even though the whole point of hanging off the bike is to decrease lean angle and stand the bike up during a turn we thought it would be fun to depict the historical evolution of lean angle and body position.

There is some debate about when the first motorcycle was invented. Some say that the single cylinder gasoline powered tricycle invented by Enrico Bernardi in 1882 was the first. The very first combustion powered motorycle was invented in 1885 by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in Bad Cannstatt, Germany in 1885. The invention was called the Daimler Reitwagen. 

From left to right: The identitiy of the old timer on the far left is unknown but he is a good visual depiction of what the very first roadracers looked like. In researching examples of those early roadracing pioneers we found that they frequently positioned their bodies away from the turn.
